Speckles & Patterns
Evelyn: My friend Ed gifted me a lovely little magic panel box. It was part of a series of boxes leading to a message that sent my dancing shoes on a trip to Boston. Tonight was filled with discoveries as I figured out how to open the box... later discovering a geo-cache near Gulfport under the guise of grasses and horses.

Tokens
Evelyn: My dear friend Jamie is soon to get married. I take this weekend and paint my heart out, something to represent the fire and water personalities, and the tenderness I so enjoy in them both. It is a gift, that is spread on two canvases representing the separateness and connection that exists within unique, timeless, loving relationships. I was stunned to find Monica's image a brilliant match, perhaps a token of gratitude tied gently to a tree.

Reminants
Evelyn: It is our last day together. Monica and I get up early in the morning to soak, quiet secret chatter in the silent flumes amidst soft pleas to the universe to let me stay longer. It feels really hard to leave Monica, knowing how challenging things have been and how much I can offer, if there was time. As we put my bags in the car, heading out to Sacramento, we stop by the sacred sage on the property and I pick a sprig to follow me home. I long to stay, and I draw in the aroma while sitting in the airport, a little piece of Wilbur in my pocket.

Impossible Challenges
Evelyn: I had a portion of the day to myself, and I took the opportunity to hike and sunbathe. My hike led me up the "power trail" to a little grassy knoll at the top. The poppies are everywhere... and again, my camera captures a tiny beetle covered in pollen, making his way back out. I feel a bit like him, but shaking off the pollen of my life right now.

Fiery Red
Monica: The days are getting shorter and I keep forgetting that I don't have all day to capture the light. Today I made it out the door as the light was beginning to flatten and lose its golden glow, about 20 minutes before sunset. It turned out to be perhaps the most spectacular sunset I've seen here in Mendocino, with layers of fiery red, dark orange, and deep pink. I missed Michael being at my side to see it, but when I got home, he was standing out on the back deck taking it all in.
Evelyn: Hanging at the mall today, I enjoyed a stint of time at Barnes & Noble, drinking coffee and catching up with friends, perusing the shelves and swimming in a sea of language, words, pictures, and paper. Passing the magazines I am intrigued by the influences - standing bright red among other more muted pages, and I question, again, what is beauty, really? Is it all this, or what I find every day in the variety of people and faces, each wearing their experiences, scents, clothing, and smiles in different ways. Or even the ways in which nature flaunts itself, with flowers and color and different efforts to lure us closer. How is it that we make this media our reality, every day, and allow it to influence how we feel about ourselves, our bodies, our minds, our life?

We are on hold...
Just letting everyone know that if you are waiting for a picture - we may not have much up for the next 10 days. Monica left today for Spain - a gift from close Peace Corp friends, so she could attend the wedding of a lifetime. I know she is likely to try sending me pictures at some point, but she is not sure what she will have access to. So, I am saving up my pictures, until hers arrive.
We so love all the people who follow and comment, who let us know of ways they have gotten inspired. It is encouraging, seeing that sometimes we both experience a little "photography-block" and are resistant... but we still take pictures, even if not the best. When her pictures come in, I promise to post them ASAP...
Until then, try to find ways to see the world a little differently... behind the lens can be quite remarkable.
