The world right now is hard and crispy. We had a freeze for almost 11 nights, and everything down to the grass has died... but there are places, deep below the overgrowth, hidden in crevices of decaying stumps, were growth emerges.
We drove down the coast to Point Arena and discovered a tiny hippie village with a few organic markets, a funky bakery, and a movie theater. This is the entryway to Franny's Cup & Saucer, the pink bakery where I tried my first macaron.
